Following a shocking conclusion in The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles opens with Lara’s close friends reminiscing on some of her past adventures during a memorial service at Croft Manor. It begins with the story of one Lara’s earliest pursuits - the search for the Philosopher's Stone in Rome.

This month we’re highlighting Bessie Stringfield, the “Motorcycle Queen of Miami” on National Motorcycle Ride Day!&nbsp; Bessie Stringfield (born 1911) was an American motorcyclist who was the first African-American woman to ride across the United States solo, and was one of the few civilian motorcycle dispatch riders for the US Army during World War II. Credited with breaking down barriers for both women and African-American motorcyclists, Stringfield was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame. The award bestowed by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) for "Superior Achievement by a Female Motorcyclist" is named in her honor. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/6349cb1eda778ce9d846bb4b/pta_bessie-stringfield-7B2I0dL98.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="Full illustration of Bessie Stringfield by Ashley Hay for Tomb Raider's Passport to Adventure series"> At the age of 16 Stringfield taught herself to ride her first motorcycle, a 1928 Indian Scout. By 1930, at the age of 19, she was travelled across the United States and made seven long-distance trips in the US, and eventually rode through the 48 lower states, Europe, Brazil and Haiti.&nbsp; This accomplishment is especially remarkable considering that the odds of Stringfield participating in any activity as liberating as independently traveling the country were absolutely against her. The civil rights movement would not begin until Stringfield was already well into her travels, and she faced immense amounts of discrimination along her journey. As told through Ferrar in Stringfield’s biography, Jim Crow laws and racial prejudice prevented her from being able to stay at most motels. To earn a living as she traveled, Stringfield entertained at carnival sideshows with stunt acts including the Wall of Death, in which motorcyclists zoom sideways along the walls of a wooden bowl-shaped arena and glide nearly (or actually) upside-down in spherical cages. She competed for monetary prizes in flat-track races, where motorcyclists race over dirt oval tracks. She would often times enter races and events while disguising herself as a man, but the moment it was revealed that a woman had beat all of the men competitors, she was denied her fair prizes and compensation. During World War II, Stringfield opted to serve as a civilian courier and rode her own blue 61 cubic inch Harley-Davidson. At this time, she trained amongst predominantly Black men, while still teaching and training herself to devise makeshift ways that would allow her to travel on her motorcycle, such as DIY bridges with tree limbs and rope to navigate shallow bridges over shallow waters. After settling down in the 1950s, she continued her two-wheeled legacy as a nurse. However, she was met with disdain and pushback as a Black femme working with what was then aligned with the police. After multiple denials of a license, she demanded a meeting with the police chief in Miami, who was also a motorcycle enthusiast. After taking her to a park, asking her to perform an array of challenging tricks, and seeing her land them all flawlessly, there was no question as to if she was cut out for the job. This challenge and triumph is what landed her the name “The Motorcycle Queen of Miami”. In 1990 the American Motorcycle Association paid tribute to Bessie in their inaugural "Heroes of Harley-Davidson" exhibition thanks to her collection. During her six decades of riding, Stringfield owned 27 Harley Davidson motorcycles.&nbsp; Before her passing she cheerfully did interviews about her life once it became more widespread and women cyclists gained more interest in her story. She sadly passed in 1993 at age 82 due to an ‘enlarged heart’ and thus heart complications-but she was seen riding on her motorcycle and embracing life up until her last breaths. Passport to Adventure – our series highlighting bold women who defied expectations throughout history – is back! This month we’re highlighting Junko Tabei, a legendary mountaineer from Japan. Junko Tabei (born 1939) was a Japanese mountaineer, renown worldwide for being the first woman to climb Mt. Everest. Defying societal and gender expectations, Junko never deterred from her passion of climbing, which blossomed from a very young age. After learning that women were prohibited from joining mountaineering groups in 1970’s Japan, she founded a climbing club with the mantra that women could and should lead their own expeditions. Her club (Joshi-Tohan Club) conquered Nepal’s Annapurna III and set their sights on Mt. Everest, which had a 4-year waiting list for climbing permits at the time. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/631f58b82e1398d3ac6ab666/pta_junko-tabei-U_b0vpubf.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="An illustration of Junko Tabei by Ashley Hay"> Junko led 15 women from her new mountaineering group on the Japanese Women’s Everest Expedition in 1975 to Everest’s summit. Before setting off, they lobbied for sponsorships to fund their expedition. Due to the aforementioned sexism, they struggled to raise adequate funding and had to create makeshift gear like sleeping bags themselves, and relied on recycled material. While on their ascent, Junko and her climbing group encountered a massive avalanche, which buried Junko and knocked her unconscious, along with four other club climbers. Luckily, the trusty sherpa they brought along saved them. Junko was injured from the encounter, but after a couple of days of rest she and her team blazed ahead to their goal. After a tumultuous climb, there was only enough oxegyn bottles for one woman to continue, and Tabei was nominated to finish the climb, catapulting her to international fame. Junko never stopped climbing. In 1992, she became the first woman to mount the Seven Summits in the world – the highest mountain on each continent. From Nepal to Indonesia, she conquered Everest, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Elbrus, Denali, Vinson Massif, and Carstensz Pyramid. Her love for climbing didn’t end with the physical sport. In 2002, Junko returned to studies and focused on Ecology. She researched environmental degradation and later joined the Himalayan Adventure Trust of Japan as their director, and even authored books on the topic. They were focused on protecting the fragility of high-alpine environments in order to preserve them. Sadly, Junko was diagnosed with cancer In 2012. Passport to Adventure – our series highlighting bold women who defied expectations throughout history – &nbsp;is back! This month we’re highlighting Bessie Coleman, a remarkable civil aviator. Bessie Coleman (born 1892) was an African American &amp; Cherokee aviator who starred in early aviation exhibits and stunt air shows, earning her the nicknames Brave Bessie &amp; Queen Bess. While working as a manicurist in her early 20s, Bessie was inspired by stories from WWI pilots and took a second job as a restaurant manager in hopes of saving for flight school. Unfortunately, her initial attempts to enter aviation schools were halted because neither African Americans nor women were allowed formal flight training in the United States. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/62e4147a972ca600129e91d4/pta_bessie-coleman_final-i1C-Fp1PR.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="A Passport to Adventure graphic from Tomb Raider featuring an artist's rendition of Bessie Coleman"> Illustration by <a href="https://twitter.com/AshleyHayDesign" title="Ashley Hay">Ashley Hay</a>. This didn’t stop her determination to soar high. After learning of the many women aviators in France, Bessie began saving money from her jobs. Prominent Black business members of the time encouraged her to follow her dream abroad; Robert Abbott published Bessie’s story is his paper the Chicago Defender to drum up interest, and entrepreneur/banker Jesse Binga helped to fund her travel. Coleman studied French in her free time and was later accepted at the Caudron Brothers School of Aviation in Le Crotoy, France in 1920. She worked hard and realized her dream of earning an international pilot’s license on June 15, 1921 from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. Although the United States had denied her the right to earn a license domestically, she was celebrated upon returning home as the first African American and Native American woman pilot. She had returned to the United States where she staged the first public flight by an African American woman on Labor Day 1922. From there her popularity soared with aerial “barnstorming” stunt shows, where Bessie stood strong by her beliefs and refused to perform for segregated audiences. Always setting her sights higher, Bessie’s new dream was to own her own plane and open a flight school to encourage more African Americans to take to the skies. She began fundraising through speeches, flight lessons, and air show participation where she stunned audiences with daring moves like “loop-the-loops”. She purchased her own plane in 1925, Jenny – JN-4 with an OX-5 engine. Turbulent events couldn’t limit Coleman’s aspirations, including witnessing a classmate perish in a crash and an accident of her own that left her badly injured. Coleman never let anything deter her from pursuing her dreams, so she continued her daring performances once fully healed. Over time she raised enough money to open her own school, but before it was realized tragedy struck. Bessie passed away in 1926 while a passenger in a test flight at the age of 34. Though she died young, her legacy lives on to this day. For many years, Black pilots from Chicago honored her annually by flying over her grave. Bessie Coleman continues to serve as an inspiration for anyone to awaken their sense of adventure, persevere, and never give up. Passport to Adventure: Bessie Coleman

Passport to Adventure – our series highlighting bold women who defied expectations throughout history – returns in a new format just in time to raise awareness for <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23worldrefugeeday&amp;src=typed_query" title="#worldrefugeeday">#worldrefugeeday</a>. Our friends over at the <a href="https://www.rescue.org/" title="International Rescue Committee">International Rescue Committee</a> work daily to raise funds and awareness for displaced people around the world. An important part of that work is combating labels and giving voice to refugees. Stories told by refugees illustrate that they are multi-dimensional human beings not defined by their displacement. Hedy Lamarr is an example of just that – a remarkable and complex woman who brought much more to the world than she carried in her bags as an Austrian refugee. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/62b0a1e129e2a40011f5fd48/pta_hedy-lamarr-R8tLS7ZaA.jpg?width=&amp;height="> Known as one of Hollywood’s greatest movie stars of all time, Hedy Lamarr was also an inventor who changed technology forever. Born in Austria in 1914 to parents of Jewish decent, Hedy took an interest in acting on the stage and film at a young age, and quickly achieved notoriety for her work. Lamarr married one of her most persistent suiters at the age of 18 – an Austrian arms merchant and munitions manufacturer. Through his work with the military she was exposed to scientists and technologists, and an interest in applied sciences she harbored since childhood began to blossom. His work had close ties to fascist leaders in Italy and Germany, however, and at the age of 23 Lamarr fled Austria for Paris under disguise. Shortly after she traveled to London and eventually to the United States after meeting the Head of MGM, who was in Europe scouting for talent. In Hollywood Lamarr was billed as the “world’s most beautiful woman” and though her career skyrocketed, she was often typecast into glamorous roles with an imbalance of seductive screentime over spoken lines. On a personal front Lamarr was known for being private and withdrawn, forgoing raucous parties for contemplative dinners with kindred spirits. This included aviation tycoon Howard Hughes, with whom Lamarr openly shared suggestions on how to improve and streamline the design of his aircraft fleet. Hughes gave her access to his arsenal of equipment and engineers, and in her spare time Lamarr would tinker – working to improve traffic light systems or experimenting with a tablet that would turn water into a carbonated drink for easier wartime consumption. (The latter didn’t work out – Lamarr lamented the product tasted terrible.) It was World War II that pushed Lamarr’s hobby into new territory. As told in Hedy's Folly: The Life and Breakthrough Inventions of Hedy Lamarr by Richard Rhodes, “Hedy said that she did not feel very comfortable, sitting there in Hollywood and making lots of money when things were in such a state. She said that she knew a good deal about munitions and various secret weapons, and that she was thinking seriously of quitting MGM and going to Washington, DC, to offer her services to the newly established Inventors' Council.” While reading up on bleeding-edge WWII technology, Lamarr learned that radio-controlled torpedoes could be jammed remotely. Brainstorming potential workarounds to this glaring disadvantage, she questioned if the signal could frequency-hop so to avoid interruption all together. In partnership with her friend and composer George Antheil, they developed a device inspired by a player piano, and went on to patent their designs for a frequency-hopping system. While their invention was granted a patent, the complexity of integrating it into existing technology and an aversion to integrating civilian inventions into military technology resulted in it laying dormant. It wasn’t until the 1960s that the concept was first used, after the Lamarr-Antheil device patent expired. While neither Lamarr nor Antheil’s work was recognized fully for decades, it was later acknowledged that their invention was a forerunner to the idea of “spread-spectrum” communications, which is foundational to Bluetooth, GPS, and cellphone networks. Lamarr is a rarity who was awarded both a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and posthumously inducted into the National Inventor’s Hall of fame. She is a phenomenal example of the World Refugee Day theme “We Bring More than we Carry”. WOTV FFBE CELEBRATES TR25 WITH A TOMB RAIDER COLLAB EVENT

"Well, this is a tomb. I'll make them feel at home." – Lara Croft, Tomb Raider: Legend As the name would imply, tombs are at the heart of Lara’s adventures. The funny thing is the term “tomb” is actually quite ambiguous, and means different things to different people. To some, tombs represent ancient spaces untouched for centuries, agnostic of it being an interment site. For others, tombs mean actual burial chambers, the final resting place of royalty from a forgotten age. And for others still, the term “tomb” is a synonym for puzzle, with the thematic wrapper less important than the brainteaser within. Not to mention that Lara is in constant danger during her travels, and any location could quickly become her personal tomb. Even when Lara retreats into modern day marvels like Paris or Prague, it’s safe to say that history is always just under foot. The Lost Valley and its stunning introduction of foes thought long extinct still top many “most memorable moments” lists to this day. As the T-Rex entered the valley with thundering footsteps and a chilling roar, Lara was suddenly very small, and players realized that Tomb Raider offered them truly lost worlds. It wasn’t just the wow-factor that made The Lost Valley incredible, though. A complex puzzle involving a series of gears, challenging traversal, and an abundance of water – a technical marvel at the time – made it the game’s standout tomb.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/tr2-gear-banner-UZ5NKcpAy.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider II logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Tibet – Barkhang Monastery: While many would argue that the cinematic and oppressive Wreck of the Maria Doria was the most memorable area in Tomb Raider II, the Barkhang Monastery takes the top slot by a small margin. Towards the climax of the game Lara reached a monastery high in the mountains of Tibet. Instead of structures abandoned to time she found an inhabited complex guarded by fierce monks. If the player avoided shooting any of these monks, they would aid Lara in fending off Fiamma Nera thugs as she explored the labyrinth-like monastery. Furnished with deep red tapestries, warm glowing lanterns, and lavish gold ornaments, it was impossible not to drink in the atmosphere as Lara tracked down five prayer wheels.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/tr3-gear-banner-19tp-Slbw.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider III logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>India – Temple Ruins: A truly ancient and abandoned space, Lara explored the Temple Ruins in India alone, kept company by snakes, baboons, and the occasional apex predator. The level design was stunning, with the jungle slowly reclaiming temples and waterfalls eroding the once immaculate carvings. While the water looked tempting, keeping an eye out for piranha became a necessity. The level unfolded both outside against a clear blue sky, and in interior spaces illuminated by rays of light struggling to penetrate the thick air. Despite the beauty, there was a constant sense of danger in the Temple Ruins, realized in its most extreme form when statues came to life to try and dispatch Lara. Filled with levers, keys, movable block puzzles, spike traps, and more, the Temple Ruins were a challenge. Near the end of the level deceased adventurers Randy and Rory proved that not everyone was as competent as Lara.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/tr4-gear-banner-JdVxYSVqo.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider IV logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Karnak, Egypt – Tomb of Semerkhet: An easy call for fans of The Last Revelation, the Tomb of Semerkhet allowed Lara to play a game within a game. An ancient Egyptian pastime named Senet, the rules were simple enough. Perched on a balcony to one side of a great hall – and across from the menacing face of her opponent – Lara would spin a series of sticks corresponding to numbers. She would then select the pawn to move by touching color-coated tiles. To win the game, the player needed to get all of Lara’s pawns off the board by navigating them to an Ankh near the end. The true treat was that Lara’s path out of the tomb changed dependent on if she won or lost the game. The rest of the level was also atmospheric and enjoyable, with a series of timed flame traps temping the player with pickups, complex rope courses, and scarabs and jackals shadowing Lara’s every move.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/tr5-gear-banner-8gEKEb9uW.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider V logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>The Black Isles, Ireland – Labyrinth: A short but interesting level, the explorable spaces in Ireland were unique in that little Lara was unarmed. As such, enemy encounters required her to outrun or outsmart her foes. The level kicked off with Lara stumbling upon a reaper-like creature in a derelict church. Showing moxie she followed the creature, gaining access to a large multi-story puzzle room with rotating bridges beneath the church. The ultimate goal was to align the bridges and retrieve the Bestiary from the central tower, a tome that allowed Lara to best a demon causing problems on the island. After retrieving her prize, wisps of light guided Lara through a labyrinth, a beast hot on her heels, unhappy in her choice of party favors.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/aod-gear-banner-QYDTc-5JX.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider AOD logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Paris, France – The Hall of Seasons: Just beneath Paris’ iconic Louvre lay an unpublicized archeological dig with loads of secrets to discover. Opening the Tomb of the Ancients was difficult in and of itself, as a complex mechanical door with dials and leavers stood in Lara’s way. The tomb yielded access to The Hall of Seasons, a hub which in turn housed four alcoves: Neptune’s Hall, Wrath of the Beast, The Sanctuary of Flame, and The Breath of Hades. The goal was to complete all four chambers, each associated with an elemental force, and claim corresponding crystals. The full set of crystals fit into a receptacle back in the Hall of Seasons. Flanked by undead knights, an assortment of traps, and treacherous traversal, completing the task wasn’t easy.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/trl-gear-banner-BeFUCilr0.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider Legend logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Cornwall, England: King Arthur’s Tomb: After Angel of Darkness, Legend focused on a return to huge ancient spaces as playgrounds. Peru, Bolivia, and Ghana had plenty to offer, but an unassuming tomb in Cornwall, England was a standout. In search of the legendary Excalibur, Lara ironically found the real King Arthur’s tomb just below an abandoned tourist trap dedicated to the legendary knights. After traversing through a gift shop, various exhibits, and storage rooms, Lara returned power to the complex and made her way down to the real deal, heralded by non-tourist friendly deathtraps. Lots of environmental puzzles, coffin surfing, and a climatic fight with a sea serpent awaited, the latter requiring creative use of the environment as a weapon. This tomb played to the core fantasy of Tomb Raider – that there is always more than meets the eye, even in unlikely places.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/tra-gear-banner-A83AfuARi.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider Anniversary logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>St. Francis Folly, Greece: Traversing to exceptional heights while exchanging banter (rather than bullets) with Pierre, St. Francis Folly was a huge level rife with dangerous animals, deadly traversal, and complex puzzles. The central room required four keys to unlock the exit, each corresponding to a specific puzzle room. Getting to each room was difficult in itself, requiring Lara to track down the correct lever in the multi-story antechamber, then solve a puzzle, collect a key, escape the traps, and repeat three more times. Poseidon’s level involved changing water levels and the Hephaestus room was rigged with lightning. Atlas’ puzzle room involved an appropriately oversized boulder trap, and to secure the Damocles key you had to avoid a onslaught of swords.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/tru-gear-banner-yKnclqHva.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raider Underworld logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Southern Mexico: The entirety of Lara’s journey into Southern Mexico can be considered standout, but the early “Unnamed Days” chapter was particularly fun. Navigating in the rain between dig sites on her motorbike, the goal was to solve a puzzle associated with a huge Mayan calendar. Black panthers and mercenaries stalked Lara, making the level a balance between exploration, combat, and traversal in the midst of one large puzzle. When the pieces required to align the calendar were retrieved, a secret entrance was revealed in the courtyard below, giving access to Xibalba, the Mayan land of the dead.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/tr2013-gear-banner-_3XSjUZPk.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Tomb Raide (2013) logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Yamatai, Chasm Monastery: Tomb Raider 2013 introduced the concept of side tombs – puzzle chambers off the critical path that the player wasn’t required to visit. The reboot also streamlined puzzles to physics-based challenges as a means of grounding the adventure in reality. That being said, Yamatai was layered with history, from the leavings of recently dead travelers stranded on the island, to the distant past of native Japanese inhabitants. The Chasm Monastery was a standout in this vein, introducing a clever puzzle that required Lara to harness a natural wind tunnel and transform a bell into a wrecking ball. Just after her escape, she stumbled into the tomb at the very heart of the game – the final resting place of Queen Himiko. Surrounded by murals, we heard Lara’s mind at work as she connected dots in the mystery of Yamatai and the powerful storms that shroud it from the world.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/rottr-gear-banner-_boOSKYuC.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Rise of the Tomb Raider logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Geothermal Valley, The Flooded Archives: Rise of the Tomb Raider took fan feedback to heart, putting more non-optional tombs in the main game. Celebrating this as a “return to tombs,” nested puzzles were implemented, a formula that required solving several smaller puzzles to work towards a singular goal. The game also contained a good number of optional side tombs, which aided in world building and contained more challenging puzzles. The standout tomb in the game, aside from spoiler-heavy ancient spaces towards the end of the title, was the Flooded Archives. As the name implies, once a grand archive of knowledge, the space housed crumbling staircases, toppled statues, waterlogged scrolls, and a multi-part physics puzzle at its core. Littered with collectibles, the Flooded Archives also gave Lara her first taste of the supernatural in the game.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60f1e0c58e9c1800123c1cff/sottr-gear-banner-OnFJ72Q_p.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with different gear icons from Tomb Raider games faded in the background. The Shadow of the Tomb Raider logo is on the left."> <ul> <li>Howl of the Monkey Gods, Paititi: Shadow of the Tomb Raider featured several challenge tombs that players could take on as they progressed through the main story. It also saw the release of several DLC packs like Nightmare, which included the Howl of the Monkey Gods challenge tomb. This tomb boasts breathtaking views and unique mechanics which include timed events needing you to pay attention to the beat of a drum. The ‘Monkey Do’ achievement features the "White Breath" skill as a reward, which allows Lara's Fear Arrows to generate a cloud of hallucinogenic vapor clouds. With no shortage of platforms, ziplines, and braving new heights, many feel the reward for this one is not only at the end but the experience altogether.</li> </ul>

Celebrating PRIDE with our Community 

The outfit alone doesn’t make an adventurer – gear counts towards a good part of preparing for the unknown. For the majority of the last 25 years, Lara Croft has had ready access to the best. Ferreted away in her trusty backpack, early franchise staples included medipacks, flares, a compass, stopwatch, binoculars, and more – all what you’d expect to find on a well-thought-out expedition. Originally Lara was intended to have even more gear, with dynamite, grenades, a flashlight, and a diary cut from the classic inventory. Additional cut gear included a mystical amulet in The Angel of Darkness, which would have given Lara access to a special training area to perfect new moves. In Tomb Raider: Legend Lara’s equipment underwent an upgrade, with the addition of an PDA, headset with camera, personal light source, a magnetic grapple, and binoculars with R.A.D. – a Remote Analysis Device. The technology advancements continued in Underworld. In Tomb Raider (2013), Lara prepared for a research trip rather than a full-blown adventure; not that she was left with any equipment after washing up on Yamatai. After the Endurance crashed a resourceful young Croft scavenged a large majority of her gear, using a universal currency called salvage for upgrades. In Rise of the Tomb Raider Lara set out to find answers. Leaving much more prepared, she departed with climbing gear, glow sticks, and twin trusty axes. Although some gear was lost in an avalanche, through scavenging and an improved crafting system ensured Lara got access to what she needed throughout the game. Shadow’s gear opened up new traversal paths in Lara’s Peruvian adventure. Franchise Feature: The Gear

Some fans have been celebrating Tomb Raider and Lara Crofts legacy with fan art, videos, cosplays, screenshots, or creative writing - but did you know some celebrate by traveling with Lara around the world? Let us explain! Throughout the past several years, Bartosz and Robert - the two webmasters of Official Polish Fansite - “<a href="http://laracroft.pl/" title="World of Tomb Raider" target="_blank">World of Tomb Raider</a>” have visited many places inspired by Lara's itinerary in the games. They didn't travel alone, though. They always took a beloved action figure of Lara Croft along for the ride, Classic Lara being their favorite. They traveled to Egypt, Japan, Venice, Greece, London, Derby and even one of Nathan McCree's concerts for the Tomb Raider Suite. Their Lara Croft action figure and her travels became famous in Tomb Raider community when it was kissed by Shelley Blond too, the very first voice of Lara Croft.&nbsp; Since May is dedicated to Tomb Raider IV, we saw it fitting to showcase what places Bartosz, Robert and smol action Lara saw in Egypt. TR25 Fan Spotlight: Around the World with World of Tomb Raider

“It’s just like going up a set of stairs, only far less boring…” – Lara Croft, Tomb Raider: Legend With Croft Manor’s extensive facilities at her disposal, it’s no wonder that Lara has honed her gymnastic skills to Olympian levels. From conception, Lara Croft was created with athleticism in mind, outfitted in a leotard, long braid, and utilitarian boots. Over time Lara’s skills waxed and waned, changing as new mechanics diversified her abilities, and, conversely, when the reboot traded showmanship for scrappy combat &amp; grounded traversal. In the early Core Design games, walking, running, jumping, and shimmying were all staples of traversal, while Lara’s flips, handstands, and swan dives added stylistic flourish. Lara’s impressive athletic abilities were then taken to the next level in the Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld trilogy. The player could string together multiple moves in flashy combos. Much of the believability in Lara’s Underworld performance came from the use of motion capture, in which Olympic gymnast Heidi Moneymaker stepped into Lara’s boots. &nbsp; The Tomb Raider reboot in 2013 saw Lara’s moves streamlined to compliment the more grounded storyline. She could also strafe along vine walls to stealthy attack from the shadows.</li> <li>Rappelling: Adding even more verticality to traversal, Lara’s climbing axes evolved to allow her to repel up or down cliff faces.</li> <li>Underwater Swimming: Shadow of the Tomb Raider greatly improved Lara’s underwater traversal, allowing Lara to descend and ascend, interact with her surroundings, fend off wildlife, and find pockets of air to prolong her swim time. TR25 Pixel Art Downloads

Lara Croft has learned to be prepared for anything, and in part that means not leaving home without a piece from her extensive arsenal. Being one of few privy to the secrets held captive by history, she has learned that there is no such thing as a routine archeological excavation. Dual pistols were part of Lara Croft’s early DNA, so much that they’ve become standalone symbols for the franchise. Twin uzis and magnums, the shotgun, and the grenade launcher were common in the Core Design games, along with the occasional more exotic firearm. Cheat codes in the Core games threw pacing out the window, allowing early access to powerful weapons and unlimited ammo.&nbsp; Angel of Darkness saw Lara working to clear her name of murder, caught in flight without her trusty dual pistols. Fans were quick to patch them back in through mods, though. The dual pistols return in Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld, as did various rifles, SMGs, shotguns, and explosive artillery. Lara also wreaked havoc with mythical weapons when given the opportunity. The rebooted universe marked a shift for the franchise, retiring the dual pistols in a dramatic move to make a new mark. Lara was given a history in archery as part of a university club called the Sisters of Artemis. When stranded on Yamatai, her natural course of action was to scavenge a bow from a corpse, and later learn to craft them from found resources. The bow is a silent and deadly weapon that also works as a tool for creating rope bridges or climbing footholds. This played into the rebooted themes of survival and resourcefulness, blurring the lines between gear and weaponry. Our #TR25 festivities continue with an epic Fortnite collaboration! Journey forth in search of adventure in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6. For those of you unfamiliar with how the Battle Pass system works, here is the intel: <ul> <li>Fortnite is a free-to-play, cross-platform game with multiple modes. The Battle Pass is specific to the “Battle Royale” mode.</li> <li>You can buy the optional Chapter 2 Season 6 Battle Pass for 950 V-Bucks, which is roughly $10.</li> <li>By purchasing and unlocking the Battle Pass, the XP you collect goes towards leveling up and unlocking cosmetic-only content. Lara Croft Joins the Fortnite Family

We've been highlighting different types of fan celebrations and community efforts throughout our TR25 celebrations, and this week we want to turn the spotlight over to an extremely talented community member and composer! If you hang out on social media and interact with other members of the community, you're probably no stranger to the musical musings of Dean Kopri. Since we are celebrating Tomb Raider II this month, we thought it was fitting to highlight his recently uploaded fan cover of the TRII theme, inspired by the original work by Nathan McCree. <iframe width="670" height="615" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HY6GlhfmWDM" title="" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope;" allowfullscreen></iframe> Hailing from Croatia, Dean has been an avid Tomb Raider fan for years - and with musical influences from bands like Nightwish, you can imagine his fan covers and interpretations of Tomb Raider music are nothing short of EPIC. Speaking of epic, he also recently released his biggest TR inspired theme called "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUPTPRhd22s">TIMELINES</a>" specifically for the TR25 celebration! TR25 Fan Spotlight: Dean Kopri

Even when at peak physical form, sometimes Lara needs a quicker way to get around. As evidenced by her past adventures, Lara must be licensed to drive an impressive array of vehicles. From the first glimpse of Croft Manor in 1996, Lara’s affinity for motorbikes was apparent. It wasn’t until Tomb Raider II that fans got their hands on the first playable vehicle, requiring them to navigate the tight canals of Venice by boat. Lara also sped about the Tibetan foothills by way of snowmobile, and proved knowledgeable in aviation when she piloted Bartoli’s seaplane without batting an eye. The formula proved successful, with an assortment of vehicles breaking up foot travel in subsequent games, including quad bikes, kayaks, and even mine carts. In Tomb Raider: Legend, two branded Ducati bikes were featured in-game. For the reboot in 2013, vehicles weren’t included in favor of focusing on establishing Lara’s new traversal skills. A fast-travel system allowed her to travel around the island “on foot,” however. Branded vehicles were quite popular in the Hollywood adaptations, with an Aston Martin, Land-Rover, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, and more making on-screen appearances. The Jeep deal even resulted in a pair of co-branded Jeep Hot Wheels. Vehicles have proven one of the most popular aspects of Lara Croft: Relic Run, with the inclusion of the quad bike, motorbike, and snowmobile adding variety to Lara’s lengthy runs. It sank to the bottom of the ocean towards the end of Tomb Raider, but Lara must have had an affinity for that specific bike. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on someone new! If you’re active on Twitter, you’ve probably seen a Tomb Raider giveaway or two, or three, or four… from this generous, die-hard and passionate individual. Hailing from France, Nicolas Croft came up with his own charming idea to look back on the years of Tomb Raider in the best way – from the fans themselves. If you have a story, anecdote, tribute, or something you want to contribute, Nicolas is compiling entries from the community to put together a 25th Anniversary Community Book! TR25 Fan Spotlight: Lara Croft PT

At the end of every journey – after friendships are forged or dissolved, traps disarmed, enemies dispatched, and tombs raided – is an item. A relic. An artifact. Lara Croft’s adventures center on myths, and these treasures are manifestations of those myths. The physical proof that long forgotten rituals, cultures, or even worlds did exist. Often these items are too dangerous to be exposed to humanity, and as such they end tucked safely away in the trophy room of Croft Manor. Here are some of the trinkets at the heart of Lara Croft’s greatest adventures. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/tr1b-ieq5BxKyx.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Scion artifact."> Atlantian Scion: The artifact Natla tasked Lara with recovering in the original Tomb Raider, the Scion was created by a triumvirate of Atlantian rulers, Qualopec, Tihocan, and Natla. Separated into three pieces, it represented their joint leadership in governing Atlantis. A mighty power source, the Scion was a generator for the Great Pyramid, providing the energy needed to grow an army of Atlanteans inside the hatcheries. Natla used the Scion for her own genetic experiments, and when she was found out, Tihocan and Qualopec condemned her to imprisonment and hid her piece away. They were each buried with their two remaining fragments. Lara shot the Scion in her final confrontation with Natla, breaking it into pieces. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/triib-OH0MqC1vP.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider II logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Dagger of Xi'an artifact."> Dagger of Xian: The Dagger of Xian was the main artifact Lara sought in Tomb Raider II, used by a brutal emperor long ago to gain an edge over his enemies. According to legend, if you plunged the dagger into your heart you’d be transformed into a dragon. The emperor ruled until a monk took advantage of the battlefield chaos. Creeping under the dragon, the monk pulled the dagger out and ended the emperor’s reign. The monks hid the dagger away in the Temple of Xian at the Great Wall of China. While Marco Bartoli got his hands on the dagger and proved his faith by plunging it into his chest, Lara bested him even in his dragon form. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/triiib-LIkQ0Lc5p.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider III logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Meteorite artifacts."> Meteorite Artefacts: Once again unknowingly hired by someone with mal-intent, Lara was after four meteorite artefacts in Tomb Raider III. The objects were carved by Polynesians from a meteorite that landed in Antarctica long ago. The artifacts were abandoned in Antarctica, only to be found by the sailors of the HMS Beagle in 1834. They returned to London and took the artifacts separate ways. Each individual artifact granted the holder a unique power, and when assembled in their place of origin, they had evolutionary effects. A fifth artifact, called the Hand of Rathmore, was revealed in Tomb Raider III’s The Lost Artifact <ul> <li>The Infada Stone: Found in India and imbued powers of levitation and fiery projectiles.</li> <li>Eye of Isis: This artifact ended up in the hands of Sophia Leigh, who integrated it into her beauty regime to stop the process of ageing. It also allowed the wielder to fire energy bolts.</li> <li>Element 115: Found in Area 51 of Nevada, Element 115 doesn’t have a defined power as it wasn’t used against Lara in battle.</li> <li>Ora Dagger: Recovered in the South Pacific, the dagger was in the hands of a cannibalistic tribe, and it granted the user the power to summon beasts and energy orbs.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/trivb-2U7FmTvNy.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider IV logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Ankh artifact."> <ul> <li>Iris: In the training level of The Last Revelation, Lara and Werner Von Croy raced to recover the Iris in a test of skills. Werner got to it first and set off a trap. Lara managed to escape with her life, assuming Von Croy had perished. Werner survives and takes the Iris with him, locking it up in Von Croy Industries, where Lara recovered it at a later date.</li> <li>Amulet of Horus: The cause of much consternation in The Last Revelation, The Amulet of Horus was more than just a pretty bauble. The gold ankh was created by the god Horus and his high priest Semerket to seal the evil Set away for all time. Lara discovered it in Egypt and removed it from its rightful place, setting Set free in the process.</li> <li>The Armor of Horus: Not all hope was lost, though. Lara learned she could call on Horus to battle with Set by tracking down his armor and reassembling the pieces. After tracking down the five pieces of divine armor, Set stepped in and interrupted before Horus could be fully summoned. Ultimately, Lara found a trap door to the temple and was able to close it with the ankh and seal Set inside once more.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/trvb-OLrYGGP1W.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. Lara broke into Von Croy Industries to retrieve it, using it as a power source to teleport herself into from one room to another. Von Croy appeared to still be researching the artifact. The research was drawn to a halt, as the Isis showed up in Lara’s trophy room in Tomb Raider III, implying that she successfully stole it.</li> <li>Philosopher’s Stone: In a recounted tale, Lara goes to Rome in search of the ultimate alchemist artifact, the Philosopher’s Stone. The stone was hidden behind the Philosopher’s Gate, which could only be unlocked by a series of other stones named after Mercury, Saturn, Mars, and Venus. As is rumored with the real stone, it turned metals into pure gold, so one could understand the extra protection it got from gargoyles and an assortment of gladiator foes.</li> <li>Spear of Destiny: The spear “when wielded at the vanguard of an army, would make that army invincible.” Lara traveled to Russia to find it, where it was rumored to live in the ruins of a German U-boat. Lara retrieved it, only to be forced to hand it over to the Russian gangster Sergei Mikhailov. However, the spear’s powers were unpredictable, and caused the Russian submarine to sink. With no witnesses, Lara left the spear to sit on the ocean floor unrecovered.</li> <li>Bestiary: One of Lara’s earliest finds, the bestiary is a book of arcane knowledge. Once you confront a demon from the Bestiary with its true name, you have control of said demon. The bestiary saves Lara and Father Bram from a grisly end, when she names the demon Verdilet and then orders it to disappear forever.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/aodb-GM1f-YcW8.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider VI logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Sanglyph artifact."> <ul> <li>The Sanglyph: At the heart of Angel of Darkness is the Sanglyph, an artifact created by the dark alchemist Eckhardt to aid him in reviving the Nephilim race. The Sanglyph required a special glove to wield because of the immense power. In order to avoid it being captured while he prepared to bring back the Nephilim, Eckhardt separated The Sanglyph into five pieces and hid them in the Obscura paintings.</li> <li>Eckhardt’s Glove: This special glove was needed to wield the Sanglyph, but also has power of its own, as seen in The Monstrum killings.</li> <li>Obscura Paintings: The only lead Lara had in Von Croy’s death is tracking down the five Obscura Paintings. The Obscura Paintings were created by Pieter Van Eckhardt to hide the Sanglyph pieces, each depicting evil imagery. Seized and painted over with religious imagery by Brother Obscura of the Lux Veritatis, they were hidden away to keep them out of Eckhardt’s hands.</li> <li>The Obscura Engravings: Five copies of the original Obscura Paintings were created, each acting as a map to the original’s location.</li> <li>Periapt Shards: These mystic weapons were used by the Lux Veritatis to lock away Pieter Van Eckhardt for centuries, and are also the only thing that can kill a Nephilim. Lara finds one in the Louvre, lost by Kurtis Trent. He didn’t leave empty handed, however, getting away with her Obscura Painting. Needing to work together, eventually they collected all three shards, which were used to kill Eckhardt.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/trlb-gi3WAMvr7.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider Legend logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Excalibur artifact."> <ul> <li>Excalibur: Trying to understand what happened to her mother after the crash in the Himalayas, Lara remembered seeing a sword, and eventually realized it was tied to the Arthurian legend of the sword and the stone. Rutland escapes Bolivia with the first piece of Excalibur, but Lara reclaims it in Ghana. She gets the second piece from Shogo Takamoto in Tokyo, the third in Kazakhstan, and the final in Cornwall, at the heart of King Arthur’s actual tomb. When combined, the sword opened a portal to the mysterious world of Avalon. The shards also granted power, including levitation and health regeneration.</li> <li>The Ghalali Key: The final piece of the puzzle, the Ghalali Key was needed to reassemble the sword. An ornamental bobble, Lara’s father found it in Ghana and gave it to Amelia as a present. She was wearing it the day of the plane crash, and Lara returned to the wreckage to recover it.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/trab-j9Ma4CCgZ.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider Anniversary logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Scion artifact."> Atlantian Scion: In Anniversary, the Scion returned as the artifact at the heart of the story, but Natla expanded upon its powers further. She claimed she would use it to bring upon “the Seventh Age” and implied that she previously used the Scion to unleash the army of Atlantis upon itself, wiping it from history. She also positioned the Scion as housing “all the knowledge of the ancients” and that it could “create anything she desires.” Lara’s father weighed in through audio logs, saying he thinks the Scion may offer insight into what happened to Amelia. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/trub-L8GhMbgFE.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider Underworld logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Thor's Hammer artifact."> <ul> <li>Thor’s Gauntlets: In Tomb Raider: Underworld Lara began to connect the dots between the myth of Avalon and that of other ancient cultures. She traveled to the Mediterranean, finding ties to Norse mythology and the first of Thor’s gauntlets. As she worked to uncover the gauntlet’s twin, she discovers that her father found it first decades past, but hid it under Croft Manor to keep it from Natla. Once both were collected, the player could move heavy objects adorned with special glyphs.</li> <li>Thor’s Belt: In order to power the gauntlets, Lara needed to retrieve Thor’s belt Megingjord, which she found in Southern Mexico. Protected by thralls in the Mayan underworld Xibalba, the location of the belt contributed to her theory of a monomyth connecting many great and ancient civilizations.</li> <li>Thor’s Hammer: The last piece of the puzzle was Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer. Positioned as the key weapon against the Midgard serpent in the battle of Ragnarok. Lara found Thor’s hammer in Norway, and intended to use it to access Helheim in hopes of finding her mother. In combat, Thor’s hammer created powerful energy bolts, flinging enemies into the air.</li> </ul> <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/trrb-0aiH_dThs.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Tomb Raider logo is on the left and on the right is a render of Lara's Jade Necklace pendant."> Yamatai: In the 2013 reboot, Lara sought the truth more so than a specific artifact. Despite preparation and intense research, she still was surprised when the Endurance crashed upon the very real shores of Yamatai, an island only fabled until that day. As she explored Yamatai, she found relics from both recent and ancient history, finally stumbling upon the tomb of the Sun Queen Himiko. It was at this point that she began to understand the origin of the myth that shrouded the island in secrecy. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/rottrb-d0hSa7hd6.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Rise of the Tomb Raider logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Atlas artifact."> The Atlas: After the events on Yamatai Lara sought out a deeper understanding of the soul, which led her to investigating the lost city of Kitezh. Following mentions of an immortal prophet and something called "the divine source", Lara travels to Syria and eventually Siberia. Upon discovering a village of Remnants from the prophet’s pilgrims, she hears rumors of an object called The Atlas, supposedly a map to the lost city of Kitezh. Recovering the Atlas is the final step in entering the lost city, but with a clandestine organization called Trinity tailing her, entering the city was the easy part. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/5ff5b428823b9100110e02e4/sottrb-sc3s9hDoY.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A banner with a collage of artifacts from Tomb Raider games in the background. The Shadow of the Tomb Raider logo is on the left and on the right is a render of the Key of Chak Chel artifact."> <ul> <li>Key of Chak Chel: Shadow saw Lara and Jonah making their way through Central and South America, tracking Trinity to understand and ultimately stop their endgame. Instead, Lara accidently sets in motion a Mayan apocalypse. Oops. The doomsday counter started after she picked up the Key of Chak Chel, an ancient obsidian dagger named after a Mayan goddess. Trinity’s leader Amaru relieves her of the dagger just prior to a massive flood – the first of four cataclysm triggered by the dagger. He intends to stop the “the cleansing” and remake the world in his ideal image.</li> <li>Silver Box of Ix Chel: Fortunately, Lara gleamed enough from the tomb and the dagger to head to Peru. In Peru Lara discovered the thriving legendary city of Paititi and banded together with its leader to stop trinity. As keys usually do, Lara learned the dagger had a counterpart – the Silver Box of Ix Chel. Uniting the key and the box will stop the end of the world. With help from Jonah and the residents of Paititi, Lara found the box, confronted Amaru, and made a very personal sacrifice to protect the world.</li> </ul>

The team at Weta Workshop started their #TR25 celebrations early by teasing their highly anticipated 1:4 scale The Lost Valley statue late last year. The tease was quickly followed by a full reveal of the stunning statue concept art, which may or may not still be our mobile phone wallpaper. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60131b56f34ffb001afeec75/wetanew-brmcTqIpT.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="The Weta Workshop Lost Valley Statue concept art"> The art was crafted by their Senior Concept Artist Gus Hunter, who perfectly captured Lara’s acrobatic assault on the raptors hidden deep within the mountains of Peru. Weta are no strangers to the Tomb Raider franchise and we are thrilled to be working with them again! They previously produced a Shadow of the Tomb Raider 1:4 scale figure dubbed <a href="https://www.wetanz.com/shop/figures/lara-croft">Lara Croft Queen of the Jungle</a>, which showcases two apex predators in a single statue. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60131b56f34ffb001afeec75/weta2news-dqZW09Wqb.png?height=&amp;width=" alt="A picture of the Weta Workshop &quot;Queen of the Jungle&quot; statue"> While the limited-edition statue is currently sold out, replicas of Lara's Shadow of the Tomb Raider <a href="https://www.wetanz.com/shop/weapons/bow-and-arrow-of-lara-croft?ref=search">bow</a> and <a href="https://www.wetanz.com/shop/jewellery/necklace-of-lara-croft?ref=search">jade necklace</a> are still available via the Weta Workshop website. Weta Working on TR25 Statue

Alicia Vikander will be returning to her role as the Tomb Raider on the silver screen, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Or so we thought. News recently broke that the super-talented Misha Green will be joining up with MGM to take lead as writer and director on the next film. Misha Green to Helm Movie Sequel 

The 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider is starting off with a BANG as Netflix just announced an anime series will be coming to their platform in partnership with Legendary Television and dj2 Entertainment! After forging her path from a survivor to hero and ultimately the Tomb Raider, the series will pick up from Lara’s latest adventures in the reboot trilogy. We haven’t seen Lara animated since the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkr4eik1ntB5FygGsE1MRzwBfwqQ_I4r0">Re\Visoned: Tomb Raider Animated Series</a> of shorts released nearly 15 years ago, so we expect you’re as excited as we are about the news! <iframe width="670" height="615" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ntv6oqQl-Ss" title="" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope;" allowfullscreen></iframe> <figure> </figure> (Pssst: If you’re not familiar with the Re\Visoned series, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ntv6oqQl-Ss&amp;list=PLkr4eik1ntB5FygGsE1MRzwBfwqQ_I4r0">you can watch it in full here</a>!) <a href="https://twitter.com/Tasha3point0?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor">Tasha Huo</a> (Executive Producer) will be writing and producing the series, best known for her work on the upcoming projects The Witcher: Blood Origin and Red Sonja. Welcome again to BEYOND THE COVER. In this new issue, we’re going to discover some of the most special covers of Tomb Raider: Chronicles. In this blog, and to break a bit the versions that we have already seen (collections) in other previous blogs, I have chosen those that are unique without forgetting the most special ones. It is not the game with the most different versions. It’s one of the installments with fewer variants, but the ones it does have are very interesting. Tomb Raider: Chronicles, released on November 24, 2000. Lara Croft's death marked this game. But she wasn't dead, she was just taking a break from being such a queen. Friends of the archaeologist meet at her mansion after her funeral to recall her most outstanding chronicles of her in a truly varied title. A very interesting proposal while we waited for the new generation (at that time) and the jump to PlayStation 2. This game was a good previous title while the Angel of Darkness was being developed, thanks to which we were part of some stories and adventures of Lara Croft from young to becoming the Tomb Raider that she was destined to be. Never forget: her legacy lives on! Forever. Time to start! "> Tomb Raider: Chronicles was published in North America on &nbsp;&nbsp;November 24, 2000. In this time, we have the most different covers between NA and EU versions, especially due to the setting of the game. In the North &nbsp;&nbsp;American version, Lara Croft is shown jumping from the top floor of the VCI; an epic scene based on the last level of the game. While the cover art is exceptional worthy of any action blockbuster, it only references one of the &nbsp;&nbsp;various levels in the game, although certainly the one that could be &nbsp;&nbsp;considered the most important of all. Of course, Lara's latex suit deserves great recognition, who hasn't wanted one like it? Regarding the logo, it also changes slightly. Totally focused on the image, with a relief effect and a &nbsp;&nbsp;colorful interior with a texture like flames, it carries "Chronicles" with a font also curved with a very... stylish touch. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60e07ada7ad2d100194b5eab/2-QXolSTz8D.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="A collage of the EU Box art for Tomb Raider Chronicles. "> Tomb Raider: Chronicles does the opposite on its European cover. In &nbsp;&nbsp;this case, the gloomy tone of the image largely matches the sadness after the &nbsp;"loss" of Lara in Egypt. A close-up solely and exclusively to show &nbsp;&nbsp;Lara Croft, with a gun in hand and her characteristic glasses in the middle of the storm. To be honest, it's a Lara Croft obituary tribute cover, emerging from darkness... a clear step to the next title in the franchise, even if the two don't have much in common. For this game, entire logo maintains European patron centered in the cover (as the NA version), which is &nbsp;&nbsp;designed with the same texture, typography, and linearity. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60e07ada7ad2d100194b5eab/3-Rwmdz1r-Z.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="A collage of the Japanese Box art for Tomb Raider Chronicles. "> Japanese versions always &nbsp;&nbsp;pleasantly surprise us. Another case is that of Tomb Raider: Chronicles, with a montage that shows Lara Croft taking cover in the submarine and in the background the funeral of the archaeologist with the statue that is erected in the Croft Mansion after her supposed death. However (SPOILER ALERT!), the covers of Japan are no longer so special and unique after this game. Although &nbsp;&nbsp;we will continue talking about them in future blogs because they have very &nbsp;&nbsp;curious details, one of the greatest pleasures of the blogs that have been published to date has been talking about these magnificent covers and being able to discover them to those who did not know them. "> As Dreamcast covers for this &nbsp;&nbsp;game as the same as PlayStation ones, let's talk about back cover details. &nbsp;&nbsp;Did you see? The major thing is there are a promotional text of the first Tomb Raider Movie, starring Angelina Jolie, scheduled Summer 2001! In fact, this month was the 20th anniversary of the movie, time flies. In the image, Lara jumps sideways inside the Russian submarine, being one of the best-known renders of &nbsp;&nbsp;the game and one of the most iconic parts of Tomb Raider: Chronicles, with different bullet points about the characteristics of the latest game for PlayStation and Dreamcast. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60e07ada7ad2d100194b5eab/5-x8KWfwCjw.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="A collage of the German Box art for Tomb Raider Chronicles. "> On this occasion, I have decided to represent the German version of Tomb Raider: Chronicles for &nbsp;&nbsp;the Dreamcast to show that, in some countries, the subtitle of the game changed to localize it in the corresponding country. There were not many cases in Europe, but this is the most representative. The back cover maintains the same tone as the cover, but with Lara Croft standing, showing only her &nbsp;&nbsp;shadowed outline. It is true that it’s a not very detailed image, but that &nbsp;&nbsp;says enough to give that dark touch to the stories of Lara Croft told by those closest to her. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60e07ada7ad2d100194b5eab/6-9XRstaR-w.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="A collage of the China Box art for Tomb Raider Chronicles. "> Surprise from China! This edition of Tomb Raider: Chronicles in red DVD format is an absolute &nbsp;&nbsp;beauty and a very rare version to find. It is so aesthetic to see cover and back cover with Lara Croft in some renderings (as we have already mentioned before) so beautiful. The logo, on the other hand, maintains the Europa font with the English subtitle Chronicles. It doesn't have much more detail, allowing you to see the art design completely and without distractions. It was distributed by SunTendy, which we already know &nbsp;&nbsp;from previous occasions. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60e07ada7ad2d100194b5eab/7-rQ3gKfXD9.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="A collage of the Russian Box art for Tomb Raider Chronicles. "> In the previous blog we discovered the first Russian edition of Tomb Raider, so here we have our own Tomb &nbsp;&nbsp;Raider: Chronicles. With the European design, practically everything else changes: from the logo, which could perfectly be that of (* cough, cough *) a new Tomb Raider after unifying the timelines, to &nbsp;&nbsp;the positioning of the texts. You can imagine? "> Ericsson published two &nbsp;promotional versions of Tomb Raider: Chronicles. The one that can be seen in the image is the rarest, with a cover image totally different from any other. "> To close this blog, I want to &nbsp;&nbsp;give a special mention to the latest keystone edition of Tomb Raider. Tomb &nbsp;&nbsp;Raider: Chronicles was the last game in the franchise to have a version &nbsp;&nbsp;of this type, so well-known and valued. As the slogan says, Lara Croft's &nbsp;&nbsp;legacy will always be alive, in any of its versions. Who knows? Maybe we have a &nbsp;&nbsp;similar edition in the future... to commemorate these first five games. I'm &nbsp;&nbsp;sure it would be a great success for a future special edition.

Tomb Raider Chronicles: Streamer Kit

Hello again, raiders! We’re onto Chronicles month now and this game was a bit different than the others. Lara Croft is presumed dead after a tomb in Egypt collapsed with her still inside, and we took a &nbsp;journey through some untold stories from her past. In keeping with that theme, here are this month’s selection of fan films…&nbsp; “Bane’s Relic: Staking Claim” (US) Written and directed by Vlad Rimburg Starring Jenn Finaldi (Jenn Croft) as Lara Croft&nbsp; When an artefact is taken from Lara, she goes on a mission to take it back and faces an old &nbsp;enemy. Some may remember Jenn from the days of Lara Croft look-a-likes and her long cosplay career. &nbsp;She has been an official Lara Croft ambassador five times, has modelled for official game artwork &nbsp;and in her photoshoots through the years, she has showcased her awe-inspiring skills in stunt &nbsp;work and extreme sports. This martial arts short was no different! Training to be a stuntwoman at the time, Jenn and her &nbsp;team did an excellent job with all the fight sequences, making you feel every punch and kick!&nbsp; <iframe width="670" height="615" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0FQx9Fm0Uxk" title="Bane's Relic" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope;" allowfullscreen></iframe> “Tomb Raider: No Angel” (UK) &nbsp; Written and directed by Andrew Dobell Starring Tabitha Lyons as Lara Croft Lara narrates her own story as she reminisces about past adventures. That coupled with the smoke machines adds that &nbsp;much more atmosphere to each scene. As what is believed to be Australia’s first Tomb Raider fan film, “Dawn of the Tomb Raider” boasts &nbsp;fantastic production value and a story that fans of all the incarnations will enjoy! Fan Film Feature: June

We continue to advance in this trajectory on the most coveted merchandise by Lara Croft fans, the rarest and in many cases the most expensive and difficult to obtain. Last month we analyzed in depth the game and the objects related to <a href="https://tombraider25.square-enix-games.com/en-us/tr4/blog/treasure-hunters/?utm_source=facebook_tombraider&amp;utm_campaign=treasurehunters:tombraideriv_blog_SQEXSOCIAL&amp;fbclid=IwAR1nRBJqX_JNsHTuFYhvPUantLmQMIoSuFLHtnHBhoTzOEjkDxLFMUkA6MI">“Tomb Raider IV The Last Revelation (1999)”</a> you can take a look if you did not have the opportunity to read it before. This month we are going to dedicate our time to the next video game in the franchise, of course, I am talking about "Tomb Raider: Chronicles (2000)" We are in the year 2000, specifically in Los Angeles during the annual E3 event where the new game in the franchise is announced that will be titled "Tomb Raider Chronicles" and that continues the tradition of releasing a new game every year. During this event, there is also a surprise, Core Design not only announces "Tomb Raider Chronicles", it also makes known to the specialized media that it is already working on the next video game and that it will be for PlayStation 2, at that time the game will be would called "Tomb Raider: The Next Generation" and a year later would be renamed "Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Angel of Darkness" (2003). The announcement of both games caused Tomb Raider Chronicles to go a bit more unnoticed as everyone turned out to be more excited by the change of generation and the graphics of the next PlayStation system than in the game that was approaching users that same year. Chronicles functioned as a passage between The Last Revelation and what was supposed to be the revolutionary title for the saga (AOD). "Chronicles" story was told as short stories of Lara Croft's past adventures waiting to be revealed if Lara had managed to survive the collapse of the pyramid in her previous adventure. Core Design had begun development of "Chronicles" as soon as "The Last Revelation" was released. When the whole team was immersed in the development of Chronicles there was a change of office for the entire Core Design team in Derby. The profits produced by Lara Croft and the sale of her video games made the company able to afford a larger office that could accommodate not only a team of workers but 7 different teams working simultaneously, therefore, in March 2000, the team left the Victorian home where they had worked and created Lara Croft (located at 55 Ashbourne Road, Derby, UK) for a new headquarters in Pride Park (Derby, UK). In an interview with Gavin Rummery, he went on to say that he felt that something had died with the move and that the feeling and originality of the team to create new adventures for Lara Croft had been lost and remained in the old office. Finally, on November 20th, 2000, Tomb Raider: Chronicles went on sale with a total of 13 new levels in different locations and being one of the shortest games in the history of the license. Due to the combined presentation and by varying the linearity of a single story for four smaller stories, Chronicles did not convince much of the critics and the fans only had an average rating of 63 on Metacritic. The magic formula of the franchise was running out and that was reflected in its sales with only 1.5 million copies sold. While, in the rest of the world, Lara Croft continued to increase her fame, the production of the first film starring Angelina Jolie had begun, which would cause a large part of the public that was not fond of video games to know the character. A wave of back-to-back merchandise from previous games coupled with everyone who appeared for the first movie made Lara Croft present at virtually any specialty store. Her fame had reached its peak. Lara was too big to be handled by a small Derby team, the weight of success was beginning to show, it was time to take a step forward in this regard and to know how to properly manage the "Hand of Midas" that the company had. Werner Von Croy finally managed to find Lara deep in the pyramid "We´ve found her!" (he was quoting at the end of the Tomb Raider Chronicles video game), but had Eidos Interactive really found Lara Croft or were they on their way to losing her forever? Undoubtedly one of the most desired and difficult to find statues with prices that never go below 1000 euros for a copy. This statue was designed by Muckle Mannequins in Australia in 1999 who are also responsible for all the life-size statues of Lara Croft and which we already talked about in the article about Tomb Raider The Last Revelation last month. The exact number of units that exist of this statue is unknown as they are not numbered, although it is estimated that less than 50 units. The statue measures approximately 12 inches (30 cm) and originally comes in a white box. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60bbacbaa8727f00198d78f2/2--BwYmBobD.jpg?height=&amp;width=" alt="A Lara Croft action figure standing against a backdrop insert of the figure. This is one of the most beautiful classic Lara Croft-inspired statues ever created, in a glitter-covered evening gown made of resin she quickly became a fan favorite. In the statue's box, in addition, Lara recounts her adventures in the form of a diary with notes as curious as this: Jounral Entry: Peru May 19/02 I received a cellular call today from Varner Studios as I was tramping through the mountains back from the lost Temple. The studio had completed a sculpture of me based on vid captures I sent from the Rambaldi security tapes. The connection started breaking up when a bullet whizzed past my car and chipped my phone antennae. I told them I would get back to them and to e-mail me the particulars. The e-mail I just received includes a few photos of the figure...brilliant! It looks just like me, but dressed a bit fancier than usual. On September 2nd, 2000, Niels (a fan of the franchise) began his cycling tour in Veenendaal, the Netherlands, on his way to Core Design's headquarters in Derby, England. Where he arrived on September 5th around 4 in the afternoon. Core Design was indeed very supportive of Niels' initiative since the beginning, they've sponsored it, they got Lucozade to sponsor it, they have found Niels places to camp at night, etc. Lucy Clarkson, the official Lara Croft model, was there in person to greet him, as well as Jeremy Heath-Smith, Core's Managing Director and Eidos' Head of Development; Adrian Heath-Smith, Core's Operations Director; Susie Hamilton, Core's PR Manager; Andrew Thompson, Core's Operations Manager; Andy Watt, Producer; as well as all the Tomb Raider development team. In collaboration with the Holy / Templar SA brand, they released a series of skateboards with different designs from the last stage of Lara Croft (mainly based on Chronicles and The Last Revelation) with attractive full-color designs on the bottom of the table and wheels personalized with Lara Croft's signature. In recent years the value of these skates has skyrocketed at auctions, making them a very attractive item to collect. It's takes form of an envelope prepared by Lara should she ever come to harm- upon it is written "Only to be opened in the event of my death". It &nbsp;&nbsp;contains extracts from her diary, providing information on each episode that &nbsp;&nbsp;appears in Tomb Raider Chronicles. It also contains a letter &amp; photo from &nbsp;&nbsp;Lara and an extract from "The Surrey Chronicle". On the other hand, Eidos informs that in this way the marketing campaign begins and that it will extend until the sale of the new video game with advertising campaigns that include a new website or even advertising in theaters with the passes for the film “Charlie's Angels” - The film starred in 2000 by Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu. Tomb Raider: Chronicles Crossword Puzzle

How is it June already?! We are kicking off the month-long Tomb Raider: Chronicles celebration with our newest box art reimaging. This month Megan Lara closes out the classic PS1 era with a stunning piece in her signature art nouveau style. A big fan of Tomb Raider, Megan loaded the image with references to the game via locations, artifacts, and secrets. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60b79d5d4cce30001a508148/2144x2144_tr_boxart_megan_lara-ynxustr2r.jpg?width=&amp;height="> Megan has done illustrations for clients such as Dark Horse comics, Quantum Mechanix, Teefury, The Yetee, Syfy, Marvel, Loot Crate and a host of other amazing companies. She has also created prints and tee designs for shows, comics and movies such as Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, The Guild, Battlestar Galactica, Marvel properties, and Monty Python. <img src="https://fyre.cdn.sewest.net/tr25/60b79d5d4cce30001a508148/2560x1600_alt_tr_boxart_megan_lara-HjD2MIUeI.jpg?width=&amp;height="> "When asked to reimagine the cover for Tomb Raider: Chronicles, I jumped at the chance to illustrate it in the art nouveau style,” Megan explained. “I felt that the juxtaposition art nouveau provides was perfect for Lara Croft: soft, often feminine subjects against harsher, solid lines; realistic forms against flat shapes and patterns; fine art combined with commercial design. The opera scene in Chronicles was particularly memorable and lent itself well to the style by showcasing her femininity and resolve, so that is what I chose as the main focus. Inspired in particular by Alphonse Mucha's illustrated commercial advertisements of Sarah Bernhardt, I picked several integral scenes and locations from the game to include as vignettes around the drawing of Lara. &nbsp;As I like to do in my work, I used many easter eggs and visual references from the game to turn into patterns and design elements to tie the piece together. &nbsp;The God Stones' symbols, Iris, Bestiary, Spear of Destiny and the Philosopher's stone are a few of the more prominent ones that I hope fans of Lara's recognize and enjoy.
